Synva Gjerde Knapstad and Mari Soleim Brennhaugen are the chef apprentices representing Norway in the Nordic Championships for Cook and Waiter Apprentices.

Meet Norway's Synva Gjerde Knapstad

We work well as team and we are having a good team spirit. We work precisely and "receive" all given messages and tasks

Synva Gjerde Knapstad, Team Norway

Synva Gjerde Knapstad is 20 years old, and is doing her apprenticeship at the restaurant Vianvang. Cooking runs in her family. Both her mother and grandmother are cooks, and she says her passion for cooking was intherited from them. 

Ahead of the championships in April, the Norwegian says team spirit and precision is the strenght of Team Norway: 

–  We work well as a team and we are having a good team spirit. We work precisely and "receive" all given messages and tasks.

Synva is looking forward to representing Norway in the Championship, and is curious about how the other teams are interpreting the tasks given:

– I am excited to see how the other have interpreted the cabbage stew task and how they have prepared it, as this this a classical Norwegian dish, Synva says.

I'm looking forward to meeting new people. It will be interesting to see how the other participants solve the tasks.

Mari Soleim Brennhaugen, Team Norway

Mari Soleim Brennhaugen is 19 years old, and is an apprentice chef at the restaurant Brimibue. She has always enjoyed cooking and making dishes from scratch, and says it is important for her that the dish is both looking and tasting good. 

The Norwegian has faith in her team ahead of the competition:

–  Communication is our biggest advantage. In addition, Synva is really good on deserts and our team leader Sindre is an expert on tasting, she says.

Mari is looking forward to representing Norway in Oslo in April: 

–  I'm looking forward to meeting new people. It will be interesting to see how the other participants solve the tasks. I will also learn  a lot by just being a participant.

Team Norway Waiters

Young Waiters Aurora Marie Iversen and Souwen Gbamou will be representing Norway in the Nordic Championships for Cook and Waiter Apprentices in April 2023.
